Regenerative medicine

Regenerative medicine: the medical procedure and physiotherapy, in the same pathway.

Some situations, such as osteoarthritis, a degenerative tendon or an injury that will not heal, benefit from combining a medical procedure with a physiotherapy programme. At the clinic, the physician and the physiotherapy team work together, on the same file and with the same ultrasound.

Who it is for
  • Knee, hip or shoulder osteoarthritis that limits your activity.
  • A degenerative tendon that does not respond to the usual treatments.
  • An athlete or active patient who wants to explore a thorough conservative approach before considering surgery.
The assessment

Everything begins with a clinical and ultrasound assessment. When a medical procedure is indicated, Dr Massimo Donalisio, FMH radiologist specialised in interventional radiology, confirms the indication and performs the procedure under ultrasound control. The physiotherapy programme and regenerative therapies then take over, with measured reassessments.

Assessment tools
  1. UltrasoundLatest-generation high-resolution ultrasound, to see the tendon, muscle or joint and to guide the procedure.
  2. Infrared thermographyAn image of surface heat, to identify asymmetries and follow how they change over the course of treatment.
  3. Advanced testingStrength, mobility, motor control and sporting technique, measured and compared at each reassessment.
  4. Review of your scansMRI, X-rays and reports, with the support of the FMH radiologist where useful.
The pathway

Assess, treat, measure.

  2. 02Medical indication and ultrasound-guided procedure where relevant
  3. 03Regenerative therapies and rehabilitation
  4. 04Follow-up at 4, 8 and 12 weeks according to the protocol
Technologies and care

Our technologies

The choice of techniques follows from the assessment. Not all of them suit everyone; that is precisely what the assessment establishes.

One team, one file

The physician, the physiotherapists and the nutritionist share the same file. If you wish, your GP receives a report.

Autonomy and network

Our physiotherapists lead your care autonomously, in coordination with the doctors and specialists who follow you. Where useful, and with your consent, we liaise with your doctor or specialists. At the clinic, Dr Massimo Donalisio, FMH radiologist specialised in interventional radiology, provides imaging review, second opinions and regenerative medicine procedures.

Frequently asked questions
What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma is obtained from a blood sample, then concentrated and injected under ultrasound. It is used to treat certain tendon and joint conditions.

What does LIRA-Ortho® add?

The protocol combines PRP with ultrasound-guided percutaneous laser, followed by structured rehabilitation. It was developed in Switzerland, and ITU Clinic is its founding clinical centre.

Are these procedures reimbursed?

The medical procedure may be covered depending on the case; the regenerative part is a private service. Details are on the Fees and insurance page, and a written quote is provided before starting.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

It is not required for a first assessment. If you are followed by a doctor, we can liaise with them.
