MBST®, magnetic resonance in the service of tissue.
MBST® applies the physical principle of MRI, nuclear magnetic resonance, not to produce an image but for therapeutic purposes. Sessions are painless, contact-free, delivered as a series and integrated into a programme built after assessment.
- Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder or hand.
- Cartilage conditions and persistent joint pain.
- Tendinopathies and the after-effects of soft-tissue injuries.
- Certain nerve protocols, alongside rehabilitation.
An assessment always precedes treatment. It clarifies the indication, checks contraindications, selects the appropriate MBST® protocol and sets the number of sessions, then coordinates it with exercise and the clinic's other care.
Well-known physics, used therapeutically.
The MRI principle
A magnetic field and radiofrequency excitation act on the hydrogen nuclei of the tissues. In imaging, this signal is used to build an image; here, the energy is delivered for therapeutic purposes.
Tissue-specific programmes
Parameters differ according to the target tissue (cartilage, bone, tendon or nerve) and the area treated. The protocol is chosen after assessment.
Painless and contact-free
No invasive procedure, no perceptible heat. The session takes place at rest, which makes it compatible with a gradual return to activity.
- UltrasoundLatest-generation high-resolution ultrasound, to see the tendon, muscle or joint.
- Infrared thermographyAn image of surface heat, to identify asymmetries and follow how they change over the course of treatment.
- Advanced testingStrength, mobility, motor control and sporting technique, measured and compared at each reassessment.
- Review of your scansMRI, X-rays and reports, with the support of the FMH radiologist where useful.
Assess, treat, measure.
- 01Thorough assessment and study of your case
- 02Series of MBST® sessions according to the selected protocol
- 03Exercise programme alongside
- 04Measured reassessment of pain and function
Our technologies
Ultrasound-guided focused shockwave therapy
Focused, not radial, shockwaves concentrated at depth on the area identified by ultrasound. STORZ MEDICAL device, designed and made in Switzerland. Available from December 2026.
Discover →In-clinic ultrasound
Latest-generation high-resolution ultrasound, to see the tissue, guide the procedure and follow its progress.
Discover →LIRA-Ortho® protocol
Ultrasound-guided percutaneous laser and a PRP injection performed by the radiologist, followed by measured rehabilitation.
Discover →Knee and hip osteoarthritis
A programme centred on function and pain, in which MBST® may be included after assessment.
Discover →Rehabilitation and reconditioning
Dosed exercise, progressive loading and measured criteria for the return to activity.
Discover →The choice of techniques follows from the assessment. Not all of them suit everyone; that is precisely what the assessment establishes.
Within a programme
MBST® is not a stand-alone treatment: it is part of a programme set after assessment, with exercise and, where appropriate, other technologies at the clinic. MBST® is a trademark of MedTec Medizintechnik GmbH.
Autonomy and network
Our physiotherapists lead your care autonomously, in coordination with the doctors and specialists who follow you. Where useful, and with your consent, we liaise with your doctor or specialists. At the clinic, Dr Massimo Donalisio, FMH radiologist specialised in interventional radiology, provides imaging review, second opinions and regenerative medicine procedures.
Are the sessions painful?
No. The session is painless and contact-free; you remain comfortably settled throughout.
How many sessions should I expect?
MBST® is delivered as a series. The number of sessions depends on the indication; the written plan provided after the assessment specifies it.
Are there contraindications?
Yes, in particular certain electronic implants such as a pacemaker, and pregnancy. They are checked at the assessment, before any session.
Is MBST® reimbursed?
This is a private service; supplementary insurance may contribute depending on your policy. See the Fees and insurance page.
How do I book a series of sessions?
After the assessment, sessions can be booked online or through E2 Clinic® coordination.
A first appointment, to understand.
A thorough assessment, a study of your case, a written plan, a single point of coordination: E2 Clinic®. ITU Clinic, Route du Stand 66, 1260 Nyon.
