Osteoarthritis · knee, hip

Knee and hip osteoarthritis: staying active, with a plan.

Osteoarthritis does not necessarily mean giving up what matters to you: the mountains, golf, walking. We assess the joint, explain what is going on, then build a rigorous conservative pathway with you.

Your situation
  • Pain when you start moving, going downstairs or after exercise.
  • A knee or hip that swells, stiffens, and limits skiing, golf, hiking or tennis.
  • The feeling that, between anti-inflammatories and a joint replacement, no middle path has been offered to you.
The assessment

The assessment is thorough: a study of your case, examination of the joint, measurement of strength, mobility and function, and ultrasound observation of the tissues when it adds useful information. You leave with a written care plan: goals, sessions, reassessments.

Assessment tools
  1. UltrasoundLatest-generation high-resolution ultrasound, to see the tendon, muscle or joint and to guide the procedure.
  2. Infrared thermographyAn image of surface heat, to identify asymmetries and follow how they change over the course of treatment.
  3. Advanced testingStrength, mobility, motor control and sporting technique, measured and compared at each reassessment.
  4. Review of your scansMRI, X-rays and reports, with the support of the FMH radiologist where useful.
The pathway

Assess, treat, measure.

  1. 01Full assessment and ultrasound
  2. 02Written plan and quote for any private service
  3. 03Dosed exercise at the core of the programme, complemented by regenerative technologies
  4. 04Measured reassessment at every stage
Technologies and care

Our technologies

The choice of techniques follows from the assessment. Not all of them suit everyone; that is precisely what the assessment establishes.

Why combine

Technologies act on pain and tissue; exercise acts on function and the load the joint can bear. We combine them in a single programme rather than in isolated sessions.

Autonomy and network

Our physiotherapists lead your care autonomously, in coordination with the doctors and specialists who follow you. Where useful, and with your consent, we liaise with your doctor or specialists. At the clinic, Dr Massimo Donalisio, FMH radiologist specialised in interventional radiology, provides imaging review, second opinions and regenerative medicine procedures.

Frequently asked questions
Is osteoarthritis treatment reimbursed?

Physiotherapy on medical prescription is covered by Swiss basic or accident insurance. Regenerative technologies (MBST®, focused shockwave, laser) are private services; supplementary insurance may contribute depending on your policy. Fees are detailed on the Fees and insurance page.

Do I need a prescription?

For reimbursed physiotherapy, yes. For a private assessment or a second opinion, you can book directly.

Is this an alternative to joint replacement?

The aim is to help you stay active for as long as possible, in good condition. If surgery becomes the best option, we tell you so and work with your surgeon, before and after the operation.

How many sessions should I expect?

It depends on the stage and the goal. The written plan provided after the assessment sets out the number of sessions and the reassessment dates.
